So happened today that I spotted an SUV ahead of me that had such low air pressure on the left rear tyre it might as well be punctured. Good thing there was a red light which provided me opportunity to tell the driver she'd better go pump it up or check for leakage, else God knows how many more months she would have carried on driving oblivious to the degrading performance of the car.

Which brings me to the point of just how scary some (hopefully, it's not most) people treat their vehicles like a mere household appliance or computer and use it without due care. The only "maintenance" ever done is to drive into the petrol station, of which probably because there is a fuel meter in the instrumental dashboard.

Not an expert on vehicular matters myself, but at least I top up my 2T oil and battery water, lubricate my bike chain, check the tyres every now and then, and bring it back to my mechanic on set mileages for (many) things beyond my skills.

I feel people should really treat vehicles as objects that relate (uncomfortably, but necessarily) closer to life and death instead of a commute convenience of remote concern. Otherwise, vehicle manufacturers must find affordable means to implement monitoring mechanisms for critical vehicular components to warn of dangerous conditions/levels. Hopefully real-time tyre pressure and temperature sensors should not remain for long an expensive technology only for the racing leagues, but a common feature for the masses.
Fancy 1000hp?

Witness the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, using an 8-litre 16-cyclinder design assisted by 4 turbochargers to deliver that magnitude of power output.
